SPIROL recently updated their GD100 Ground Hollow Dowel data sheet to include more specificity in regards to the hole size. Whereas the previous version listed only a "Recommended Hole Size", the updated specifications now include a recommendation for the "Interference Fit" hole (for the primary retention of the Dowel) and "Transitional Fit” hole (for the mating component).

SPIROL introduced the GD100 Ground Hollow Dowels to the fastener industry as a direct replacement for Ground Solid Dowels per ISO 8734 for applications where centerline tolerancing and precision alignment is required. The roll formed design yields substantial cost savings, and the hollow feature offers weight savings over Solid Dowels with clearance for bolts, fluids and gases.
SPIROL offers a variety of Alignment Dowels & Bushings to accommodate different alignment requirements and cost considerations. In addition to the GD100 Ground Hollow Dowels, SPIROL offers two different split seam components for aligning:
- DB100 Dowel Bushings are used to locate components in conjunction with bolts which pass through the inside diameter after installation. Separate holes for locating pins are eliminated. The hardened Dowels also absorb shear loads, isolating the bolts from these forces.
- SD200 Spring Dowels are used to accurately locate components with respect to each other. These components are not typically used in conjunction with a bolt.
