Santa Rosa, California, Feb 2, 2022 –The UMT-W is a pulse-proof SMD ceramic fuse with a super time-lag tripping characteristic. It is particularly suitable for use as a fail-safe device in applications requiring such a slow-acting performance.
The compact cube shaped fuse measures 5.3 x 16 mm and is available in five rated currents from 5 A to 20 A. Rated voltages are up to 125 V AC & DC with a breaking capacity of up to 1000 A. The super slow and precisely defined melting characteristic is especially unique for an SMD fuse.
The UMT-W is recommended wherever high inrush currents are present, such as those in motor drive systems with long cables. Another application example is in avionics, where long wires are primarily protected by an electronic fuse. All safety critical automotive systems such as airbags, brakes, chassis control, engine control, and X-by-wire are now required to have fail-safe function. If system monitoring fails, or does not perform its task correctly, the UMT-W takes over as a fail-safe device and transfers the system to a safe current-less state. Its precise melting time, combined with its precisely defined min/max corridor at 4xIn, provides a robust and selective safety concept, which can be implemented on top of the electronic fuse.
The UMT-W fuse is a "COTS+" product. The "+" comes from extended fuse qualification tests according to AEC-Q200, as well as highly controlled manufacturing processes, which are available to all SCHURTER customers. For higher reliability requirements, a visual inspection according to MIL-PRF 55342 is also available with customer specified up-screenings (burn-in parameters), which are outlined in detailed test reports on request.
