Servometer manufactures many specialty electroforms, waveguides and radiation shields (or cold shields) which normal electroforming companies cannot produce. Our custom electroforms can be made with unusual shapes, miniature sizes, and close tolerances. They are extremely lightweight with a rugged, structural rigidity. Electroforms commonly replace plastic components that lack the tensile strength and machined components that are too heavy. Electro Deposition ProcessServometer electroforms are produced by electrodepositing a thin layer of a metal onto an machined aluminium mandral, then chemically dissolving the aluminum, leaving behind the electroformed component to the desired thickness. Servometer has perfected this electroforming process since its inception in 1957 while producing millions of metal bellows, using the same technique. Servometer can supply electroforms, which range from 0.020 in. to 8 in. cross section. Larger parts are possible, for certain geometries.Servometer electroforms can be manufactured from high-strength nickel-alloy, copper, silver and gold; each material can be used as a surface finish or layer. Mirror finishes and low reflectance coatings can be provided as required.Servometer has patented processes to combine layers of materials for applications that require different media compatibility or reflective finishes in internal or external surfaces.Round and rectangular flexible waveguides are manufactured using the electroforming process. Electroforms can withstand extreme cold temperature for aerospace and satellite systems. Because of the tight tolerances achievable through electroforming, lightweight construction, custom sizes and specialty finishes, precision equipment that needs to transmit or filter.Cold shields are manufactured with unique materials and specialty finishes. The inside can be blackened to customer specifications. Baffles can be integrated within the electroform assembly to add rigidity and filtering of light.
Designing with Metal Bellows Couplings
DESIGN ENGINEERS with precision rotary motion requirements such as instrumentation and fractional horsepower applications often choose electrodeposited nickel bellows because of their high performance characteristics like positive displacement , zero windup and low or minimal backlash. Servometer’s compact bellows couplings accommodate more than 30 times the angular misalignment and 15 times the compression or extension tolerated by other types of couplings.
Electroforming is the process of depositing thin layers of metal onto a mandrel through electroplating, dissolving the mandrel chemically, and leaving the plating as the final electroformed product. This white paper illustrates how electroformed components are manufactured and how they can be applied to a variety of applications.
