East Providence, RI – September 16, 2013 – igus®, the experts on flexible cables for moving Energy Chain® applications, has expanded its already comprehensive range of Chainflex® Bus cables. The CAT5e/GigE cables CFBUS.PVC.045 for dry environments, and CFBUS.PUR.045 for environments with oil or coolants are now available from stock.

The challenge for Bus cables in Energy Chain applications is to ensure that the transmission characteristics of the respective bus protocol are met, even after several million movement-cycles. igus is able to offer a solution for almost every bus protocol. From Profibus, DeviceNet, CC-Link through CAN-Bus, USB to all the Ethernet variants including GigE. This applies to standard and extreme applications, as well as torsion. Where copper is not the first choice (huge data rates, long travel), igus recommends, and can offer fiber optic cables.

New: GigE cables made of PVC and PUR
The material the outer jacket is made of plays an important role in the new products in the Bus cable range. The jacket material of the new CAT5e/GigE cable CFBUS.PVC.045 is a PVC mixture that has been abrasion-optimized for continuous flexing in plastic energy chains. The cable is flame-resistant, suitable for temperature from 23ºF to 158ºF, and has UL AWM compliance. igus reports that the PVC mixture tested allows high cycle counts to be achieved at moderate costs for applications where no oil is involved.

The new PUR-GigE cable CFBUS.PUR.045, on the other hand, has been designed for Energy Chain applications with machine oil, coolants and lubricants. This extremely oil-resistant cable has flame-resistance, is halogen free, can be used at temperatures from –31ºF to 158ºF, and also has UL AWM compliance. Here, too, the abrasion behavior of the outer jacket material has been optimized for the plastic used for Energy Chains, to yield a longer service life.

Different grades
igus offers different grades not only in the Bus cable range, but also for control, motor and servo cables for Energy Chains. The PVC and PUR versions supplement the wide range of TPE cables for extreme applications. According to the company, TPE has optimum mechanical and electrical characteristics and can withstand environmental temperatures of -31ºF to +212°F. In addition, it’s harder material makes thinner insulation and thus more compact designs are possible.
